Yorkshire Dales National Park Hotels

The Yorkshire Dales National Park, near The Traddock Hotel, was designated in 1954 in recognition of its outstanding scenery, diversity of wildlife habitats and rich cultural heritage. Covering an area of 1,762 square kilometres, it straddles the central Pennines in North Yorkshire though a small part lies within Cumbria.. The park is 50 miles (80 km) north east of Manchester; Leeds and Bradford lie to the south, while Kendal is to the west and Darlington to the east.

It is a living, working environment, home to over 20,000 people, with tourism and farming being the major industries found within the park.

The park attracts over eight million visitors every year. The park and surrounding area has a large range and diversity of activities for visitors. For example, many people come to the Dales for walking or exercise. The National Park is crossed by several long-distance routes including the Pennine Way, the Dales Way, the Coast to Coast Path and the latest national trail—the Pennine Bridleway. Cycling is also popular and there are several cycleways.

The Yorkshire Dales is part of a family of National Parks in the UK and is administered by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. It is the Authority’s job to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park and promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the area by the public, whilst seeking to foster the economic and social well-being of local communities.
